Between AI and Social Media, it feels like we’ve seen every point of view and photo possible. It can be really discouraging, especially when we love taking pictures and sharing our work with others.

But, I believe there is still a lot of game left. Photography can only be made from a person’s perspective, and each of us are totally unique with our own point of view. We are all capable of taking amazing, original images, we just need to learn how to see.

Has anyone ever told you that you have an eye for photography? In this class, I want to work toward developing that eye so you can begin creating unique images that only you can make.

Instead of starting with talking about the camera and using it to determine where we should go, we’re going to talk about you and where you should be pointing the camera, no matter what model you have. We’ll be learning backwards from most photography classes that start from the technical side of things.

Or better yet, we’ll be learning inside out.

What do you find yourself noticing when driving to work? What subject do you find yourself shooting over and over? Is there a story you want to tell?

In this class, we will talk about my Postcard Method for taking better images. We will explore some of the most talented photographers throughout history and some of their philosophies around creating images. We’ll talk about how to turn basic scenes and subjects into gold. We will also go over what do to with your photos after you take them.

Bring your favorite camera, could be film, digital, Polaroid, or just your smartphone. We’ll have a classroom session and a photowalk around Downtown Anderson where we can apply some of our newfound techniques for thinking about photography.
